老年人 科林·布拉格 和 索菲亚伊卜拉欣- 和青年 寂Yoon will join the Seattle 2024欧洲杯正规买球 as student board members for the 2024-25 school year. 这将是三位学生领袖的第一个任期.  

Student member positions were created in response to student advocacy led by the NAACP Youth Council about the need to uplift 和 increase BIPOC student voices within 2024欧洲杯竞猜. The Seattle 2024欧洲杯正规买球 recognizes the organizational structure of the district can create a wall between decision makers 和 the students the district serves. Board members also believe students possess valuable insight 和 should have a voice in the education received from the district 和 the decisions made by the board.

Why did you want to join the Seattle 2024欧洲杯正规买球 as a student member? 

“I 听到 about it because at 林肯 we had one of the previous year’s representatives, 随着更多的研究, 作为一名学生，我看到了一个发声的机会.”

What are you hoping to accomplish during your time on the Board?

Why did you want to join the Seattle 2024欧洲杯正规买球 as a student member? 

我想加入这个职位，这样我的声音就能被听到. Considering the activities I participate in are white/male dominated, what I have to say is always second-guessed or undermined. 2024欧洲杯竞猜有很多像我这样的学生. 第一代, 穆斯林, 索马里的美国, Hijabis who feel their voices aren’t valued 和 that’s where I come in! A voice for the underserved communities of SPS who look like me or have gone through similar situations.

Among the many multidimensional issues our district is facing, gun violence has been the most alarming for me 和 surely many others. 该地区在应对这一问题上做得还远远不够. Some steps we can take to reduce the risk of gun violence is enhancing security measures, implementing threat assessments 和 promoting adequate mental health support, so faculty can gauge whether a student poses a potential threat. Ultimately, working towards preventing deadly attacks in our district. 
 
Another issue that has been prevalent post-quarantine is the lack of motivation when it comes to schoolwork. I was in 9th grade when schools opened again, 和 it was an adjustment to say the least. Not only was that the case for me, but a lot of my peers were not doing their schoolwork. 这对我来说很难，因为懒惰是会传染的.

I’ve always been passionate about speaking out against injustices. Why did you want to join the Seattle 2024欧洲杯正规买球 as a student member? 

I am passionate about serving 和 giving back to the community. 作为2024欧洲杯竞猜的学生, I have seen first-h和 the challenges faced by students including issues related to school security 和 safety, 学校午餐的营养, 以及某些项目缺乏资金.

What are you hoping to accomplish during your time on the Board? 

我想 advocate for stronger safety 和 security measures to ensure all students feel safe at school including controlled access to school buildings, better surveillance systems 和 involving more local law enforcement.  

我想 work on improving the nutritional quality of school lunches, 确保所有学生都能获得健康, balanced 和 affordable meals that accommodate common food allergies, 饮食限制和宗教信仰.  

我想 push for increased funding for under-resourced programs, so every student has the opportunity to benefit from a well-rounded education. Cost should not be a barrier to accessing educational resources 和 opportunities, 包括学校俱乐部和课程.   

I am committed to promoting greater cultural representation within our schools, 确保所有学生都感到被关注, 听到, 和尊重. 我想 incorporate more events that celebrate 和 highlight the diverse backgrounds 和 traditions of our student body.
